Check out the Valentine’s Day ABC Order to use as a literacy center activity or as part of your ELA program around Valentine’s Day!
The Valentine’s Day ABC Order encourages students to use their knowledge of alphabetic order to complete the activities. There are 6 sets of ABC cards at different levels. The first two sets contain words that students need to alphabetize to the first letter. Set 3 requires students to alphabetize the words to the second or third letter. The last three sets are a combination of the first three sets and students need to alphabetize words using the first and/or second letters of the word. Also included, are optional activity sheets. After students put each set of words in alphabetic order, they can write the words in order on the activity sheets.
The purpose of the Valentine’s Day ABC Order literacy center activity is to provide students with a fun and engaging way for them to practice and further develop their knowledge of alphabetic order. Students apply what they know as they complete the six activities.
The Valentine’s Day ABC Order is a great activity to add to your literacy centers. It can also be used as a partner activity or an anchor activity for students to complete when they are finished their regular work. Students can complete this activity individually or with a partner. You could also divide students into groups of six and have them stand in a row in alphabetic order. The other students in the class can “check” to see if they are correct.
Until next time,
