Do you want a great multi-use idea that can be used to pre-assess student learning, as a formative assessment, or to support vocabulary development? ABC brainstorming is one of my favourite strategies and can be used for all three activities! Download your FREE Spring ABC Brainstorming Templates and try out this strategy today!
Spring ABC Brainstorming Template Uses:
Give students an ABC template and ask them to write or draw everything they know about spring. Provide students with enough time to get all their ideas down. Gather the templates and read over to determine what knowledge students have about spring. Use this information to plan activities to build on this knowledge.
As Formative Assessment
Throughout a unit on spring, return the ABC templates to the students and have them add further information. Have students date their entries to get a visual representation of their learning. Use these templates as evidence of learning for their portfolios.
To Support Vocabulary Development
As an activity for early finishers or as part of a unit about spring, ask students to try to write one word that starts with each letter of the alphabet that is related to spring. Students could also complete this activity with a partner or in small groups. Challenge students who need enrichment to come up with at least 2 or 3 words for each letter of the alphabet.
Spring ABC Brainstorming Template Tier One
The first template can be given to students who are going to draw a picture to go along with the different letters of the alphabet.
Spring ABC Brainstorming Template Tier Two
The tier two template can be used for students who are going to write one or two words for each letter of the alphabet.
Spring ABC Brainstorming Template Tier Three
Finally, the third template is for students who will write phrases or sentences for each letter of the alphabet.
