Looking for a new idea to add to your healthy choices unit? Why not have students go out into the community and interview people to discover the healthy choices they make in their lives? Use the FREE Healthy Choices Interview template included in this blogpost or create one of your own!
Steps to Interview Project
Step One: Brainstorm Possible People to Interview
As a class, brainstorm possible people that the students might interview. Print these up on a piece of chart paper. Students can choose a parent, a neighbour, a friend, a relative, or some other community member.
Step Two: Set Up Interviews
Students set up an interview time to go and ask their list of questions.
Step Three: Conduct Interview
Determine the interview questions as a class or provide students with the following list of questions. CLICK on one of the images below to download the interview pages. The interview pages are provided with regular lines and primary lines to meet the individual needs of students. Students who struggle with writing output could also audiotape their conversations.
Step Four: Share Results
Once all the students have conducted their interviews, have students share their findings with the rest of the class. Consider using a turn and talk or small group conversations to ensure all students have a chance to talk about their interviews.
Step Five: Send a Thank You Card
To finish off this activity, have students make a thank you card or send a letter thanking the person they interviewed for their time and responses. Students can include one or two things they learned about making healthy choices from their interview.
Please take a minute and answer the following question in the comment section below: “How do you involve the community during your healthy choices unit?” Thanks!
