Earth Day Teaching Ideas
1. Hold a Read-A-Thon – Hold a half day read-a-thon on Earth Day. Students can read books about recycling, conservation, nature, etc. After they have spend time reading, divide students into groups and have them share what they learned with their group. Encourage the groups to come up with unique ways to present their information – perform a skit, write a song, etc.
2. Keep an Earth Day Journal – Decide whether to do this activity as a class or individually. Either create a class journal or give students individual journals. If using a class journal, set the journal somewhere that is easily accessible to students. As students do things to help the environment, they can log their activities in the journal. If students are keeping individual journals, provide time at the end of each day for students to record what they did during the day that helped support the environment.
